To determine the length of time the pathogen can survive in soil in the absence of host material and also to inform the storage requirements of soil samples for lab diagnosis.
Outcomes
Soils collected and stored can be tested after a period of months or even years without compromising the isolation of the pathogen. From this study we can speculate that PA could potentially survive in soil for many years, even in the absence of a suitable host.
